The Little Big Dance Cycle Two Artist Lab is a five-day dance residency at The Dance Space in Brighton & Hove, focusing on exploring creating dance performance for young audiences, facilitated by experienced dramaturg Lou Cope.
During the five days, Sunday 15 – Friday 20 January, 2023, eight artists selected from across the UK, will immerse themselves in a week of learning about early years development and explore how this knowledge can support and shape their already established creative practice. The residency will have a laboratory feel to it, a moving and safe place to experiment while developing a rich understanding of making high quality dance work for, by and with very young audiences.
The week will offer opportunities for artists to learn from and work alongside established and internationally renowned choreographer Koen De Preter, who makes work for and with a diverse range of audiences and can act as a critical friend and mentor; Little Big Dance lead evaluator Professor Angela Pickard; and early years dance specialist Hannah LeFeuvre.
This is a professional development opportunity providing participants with insights into dramaturgy, choreography and early years development; enabling them to develop knowledge and confidence in the skills needed to create high quality work for early years settings and audiences.
Support with access and inclusion will be available for artists who have access requirements, visible or invisible conditions or lived experience, which influence being away from home and taking part in the Artist Lab. To support artists taking part in the residency the Little Big Team at South East Dance are available for conversations about how best to meet needs.
