we are all memory bodies

Charlotte Spencer Projects present three artworks from a wider exhibition, we are all memory bodies - a collection of participatory pieces that explore our relationships between touch, memory and sensation. Each element invites audiences to renew their experience of their bodies and the richly tactile world we live in through conversation, watching, listening and hands on invitations to work with craft materials. It aims to be a relaxed, informal drop-in space running for 1hour 30 minutes, where you feel free to explore in ways that suit you. Scroll down to find out the artists presenting their work.

These works will be presented in The Village Green at The Dance Space before THE HEAT by Becky Namgauds.

About Charlotte Spencer Projects

Charlotte Spencer Projects work with important social and ecological questions and use those enquiries to create intimate encounters with audiences. All their work seeks to create opportunities for people to connect more strongly to their physical bodies, to each other and to the world around them. What continues to shift and change is the format for how that work manifests itself and the scale at which it happens. Making processes are deeply collaborative, involving long immersive residency periods which have included 3000 Km cycle rides and building camps in forests. Perhaps best known for their immersive performances through headphones, CSP often find themselves working in unusual ways and in unconventional places. we are all memory bodies is their latest project involving eight independent artists.

Do not wash by Becky Edmunds

Participants are invited to join Becky in a collective sewing experience, stitching together a shared line on fabric. Before threading the needle, Becky asks each participant to lick the thread, leaving a trace of their DNA on it. As the thread passes through the fabric, these traces become a permanent part of the cloth, intertwining with those left by previous participants. This unwashed cloth will stand as a lasting record of everyone who took part in this intimate, one-on-one encounter.

Duration: 5-15 minutes.

A person's hand sews thread into a white piece of material that is stretched out in front of the hand. On the other side you can see the glimpse of a face. There is a logo superimposed on the top right of the image that shows a basin with water in, a cross over it and 'Do not wash' written underneath

The film is silent and highly visual, therefore is accessible for d/Deaf audiences.

Duration: 7 minutes looping.
