RAPPORT: A Double Bill
Please note, this event is included in the Undisciplined Festival Pass. For just £35 you gain access to all Undisciplined events taking place at The Dance Space, a £10 saving compared to buying each ticket individually. There are only 50 Undisciplined Festival Passes available.
We are excited to welcome two Montreal-based artists, Pauline Gervais and Charles Brecard, to present a double bill of new work for Undisciplined 2025.
Pauline and Charles are visiting the UK as part of our international exchange programme RAPPORT; a series of exchanges which encourage a flow of culture, ideas and practice between UK and international dance artists and institutions. Pauline and Charles will be visiting a number of UK Dance organisations including Dance East and The Place and look forward to sharing their work with Brighton audiences.
As well as a great opportunity for audiences to encounter Canadian contemporary work; we’ll also be inviting everyone to come together for an informal meet-the-artist drinks post-show, which will include drinks, nibbles and a good natter.
Our meet-the-artist event is supported by Québec Government Office in London.
Auf Wiedersehen by Pauline Gervais
Auf Wiedersehen is a performance and a reflection on the impact of death on our lives and the myriad ways we react to such a profound and drastic loss.
Auf Wiedersehen deeply explores the emotions triggered by the departure of a loved one and the journey of grief and acceptance that follows. It is an exploration and testimony of how death shapes us, challenges us, and ultimately, how we choose to remember and honour those who have passed.
Auf Wiedersehen is a stage adaptation of the film HERBERT, which had its world premiere in September 2022 at the Cinéma du Musée of the MBAM as part of the Festival Quartiers Danses (FQD).

Il pleut, il plaint, il rage by Charles Brecard
Il pleut, il plaint, il rage is the latest solo of Charles Brecard, awarded the 1st Prize for Best Choreography and recipient of two residency awards in Italy (DAF and Equilibrio Dynamico) at the Internationales Solo Tanz Theater Stuttgart in 2023. The work is based on a research about a growing anger that seizes the artist because of our system's complete inertia in the face of the civilisational challenges of our species and our shared inability to act and adopt new values. As if we were condemned to submit to an invisible hand, or to our primal animal instincts or to an ideology bent on domination through violence. The character transforms into a delicate monk-like figure, dancing with finesse amid glitches and chaotic movements, succumbing to profound pain and ugliness. It showcases the struggle against overwhelming chaos within a delicate existence, offering a poignant exploration of the angst and wrath that linger in all of us.
