Artist Bio:
Chess Dillon-Reams is a Brighton based dance artist, choreographer & teacher with more than 10 years of industry experience.
In 2015 Chess co-founded the multi-award winning, critically acclaimed comedic dance theatre duo; The Hiccup Project. From 2015-2020, Chess worked as co-Artistic Director, co-creating & performing in three full-length works, which toured the UK extensively.
Now, working as an independent artist, she creates socially engaged, fiercely physical dance-theatre work that draws on real experiences. With an eye for finding the political in the personal, and space for poignancy and comedy to coexist; her storytelling is driven by a desire to move audiences, to entertain and invite deeper reflection on our own lived experiences. Her debut intergenerational work M-Othering previewed to a sold out audience in Brighton in 2024, receiving glowing feedback and received critical acclaim for premiere performances in 2025.
Chess values dance education & advocates for a holistic & inclusive approach within the industry. She is currently Programme Lead for Dance at Varndean College, where she prepares young people for dance training at conservatoire level and produces new choreography annually. Chess has independently produced commissions for groups including Swindon CAT scheme and Smikle Youth Dance Company, Jasmin Vardimon Company's JV2.
Chess' practice is rooted in improvisation as a tool for discovering unique movement, driven by a deep connection to music, emotion, and narrative. Chess’ workshops offer a fun, inclusive, and welcoming space for participants to explore their own movement style and build confidence. Expect a playful, energising and inspiring experience.
