Elle s'evade (She Escapes)

Like a bite on her arm, a woman reacts as much to what comes from outside as to her own illusions. The place she finds herself in suggests that she is navigating the heart of a conflict with the sole aim of keeping herself out of danger. It is difficult to take your eyes off this woman, in this dilemma of hope and impossible outcome.

About Louise Bédard

Louise Bédard is an artist in her own right. For more than thirty years she has been mixing her career as a choreographer and performer. After completing her dance training, notably with Groupe Nouvelle Aire, Louise Bédard was quickly noticed as a talented performer. During the 1980's, she collaborated with many choreographers and artists. By 1983, Louise was awarded the Canada Council's Jacqueline-Lemieux Award, for her outstanding work. In 1987, she co-founded the Circuit-Est center chorégraphique that currently provides her with rehearsal and creation space. She became more aware of the true richness of dance as a language and decided to try her hand at choreographing herself. She formed her own company in 1990: Louise Bédard Danse. Since then, she has created more than 30 dance pieces for her company as well as around 15 commissions for other groups and artists.

Souffle

By Jane Mappin and Louis Martin Charest.

Souffle is a reflection on a changed world; a celebration of the strength and resilience of humanity, and the power of hope. The interpreter relives the emotional states of the last two and a half years of the pandemic: the devastation and the horror, the trepidations and fears, the constantly precarious social relationships, but without forgetting the inner strength and resilience that resurfaces in each of us.

About Jane Mappin

A dance graduate of York University (B.F.A.) and UQAM (masters – creation), Jane has over forty-five years of experience as an interpreter, choreographer and teacher of contemporary dance. Her choreography has been performed across Canada and internationally. She has worked both in film and on stage. Her work explores the relationship between art, social diversity and fundamental rights. Jane is bilingual and has taught at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec from 2007-2020, and in Ottawa for The School of Dance, Ottawa Dance Directive, and the Department of Theater at the University of Ottawa.

About Louis Martin Charest

Following a career as a dancer (Canada's National Ballet School, Ottawa Ballet, The National Ballet of Portugal and Les Grands Ballet Canadiens) in 2005, Louis-Martin founded LIBERAMÆ performance & films, a vehicle devoted to the advancement of screendance and live art. His films and stage works focus on unearthing authenticity while revealing and provoking a connection to the inner self. Mindful of the younger generations of dance artists, he teaches acting for dancers through improvisation. He lives in Montreal with his family.
