Crip Dance Workshop
Join dance artists João Paulo Lima and Jean Abreu for a creative workshop that invites both disabled and non-disabled movers in Brighton to explore movement and dance.
As part of their international exchange and residency at South East Dance, this session delves into the creative processes behind their latest collaboration, Dark Ruim.
This workshop is an opportunity to engage with the concept of the Crip dancing body encouraging participants to explore Crip theory and envision new possibilities for movement in dance and performance. We will challenge traditional beauty standards in dance, focusing instead on the body as a starting point for fresh perspectives on movement. Through a decolonized approach, we will celebrate diversity and the intersection of identities that don't conform to the norm.
Led by João and Jean, the two-hour workshop will include creative movement tasks, improvisation, and collaborative exploration, all designed to inspire and empower participants to think outside conventional frameworks.
All varieties of dance experience are welcome. This is an advanced/professional class. This workshop is for both disabled and non-disabled participants aged 16+
