Sweet Charity

Kick off the Brighton Screendance Festival weekend with a special screening of the 1969 classic musical Sweet Charity, choreographed by Bob Fosse. Ride a romantic rollercoaster with dance hall hostess Charity Hope Valentine as she searches for true love in New York.

Join Lottie Soffe - our in-house pro jazz teacher, who will present a short performance and lead an (optional!) mini workshop so you can learn some phrases from the Rich Man’s Frug scene.

Grab yourself a drink and some popcorn at our pop-up bar on the Village Green.

A group of dancers cluster gently around the central figure, Hannah - a white person with Down syndrome - who gazes directly into the camera. The others surround her in a soft, intricate tangle: arms cradling heads, hands draped over shoulders, torsos leaning into one another with quiet connection. While the surrounding dancers look outwards or towards each other, Hannah’s steady gaze holds the lens. All wear flesh-toned clothing, blurring the lines between bodies.
