Between Ash & Promise: An Evening of Contemporary Ballet

A Triple Bill of contemporary ballet by BalletMAR.

"Brussel has scythed a wide path through the weeds of ancient female oppression, and as audience we willingly follow her into a bright re-storied light." Kyeren Regehr, author and dance critic.

Lot’s Wife: A feminist reimagining of the biblical figure who looked back. Originally scheduled for stage in 2020, it premiered as a film during lockdown. This performance marks its long-awaited live debut. Includes original music by Carla Lucero.

Mr Greentree (My wish was my command): A multimedia solo work by Richard Bermange inspired by Austrian-Jewish cabaret artist and anti-fascist Fritz Grünbaum. Incorporating archival audio and sound design, Mr Greentree explores creativity and resistance. Premiered in New York in 2023. Includes original music.

Slant of the Earth: national premiere, choreographed by Marika Brussel. Slant of the Earth reinterprets the ancient tale of Abraham, his wife, Sarah, and their attendant Hagar. The ballet explores themes of familial conflict, weaving a narrative rich with deceit, jealousy, unfulfilled love, and the flickering promise of a new nation’s birth.
