Professional Training: Chess Dillon-Reams (she/her)
Chess' class is a playful deep dive into movement, designed to ignite creativity, energise and bring you fully into the present moment. Through guided improvisation, rich imagery, and dynamic travelling exercises, you'll explore a wide range of textures, rhythms, and energies.
Expect to sweat, laugh, and surprise yourself as we move from soft, meditative explorations to explosive, full-bodied expression. Accompanied by a powerful playlist that ebbs and flows with the energy of the class, you'll leave feeling more open, grounded, and connected to yourself and the community of dancers around you.
Dancers will be encouraged to go at their own pace bringing as much energy to the movement as feels good for them. Music will be played consistently through-out class and prompts will be given verbally and visually.
No matter your background or experience, come as you are, this is a space for everyone to move, imagine, and feel joy together.
About Chess
Chess Dillon-Reams is a Brighton based dance artist, choreographer & teacher with more than 10 years of industry experience.
After graduating from Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Chess trained and toured with Jasmin Vardimon's JV2 company. In 2015 Chess co-founded the multi-award winning, critically acclaimed comedic dance theatre duo; The Hiccup Project. From 2015-2020, Chess worked as co-Artistic Director, co-creating & performing in three full-length works, which toured the UK extensively.
Now, working as an independent artist, she creates socially engaged, fiercely physical dance-theatre work that draws on real experiences. With an eye for finding the political in the personal, and space for poignancy and comedy to coexist; her storytelling is driven by a desire to move audiences, to entertain and invite deeper reflection on our own lived experiences.
Her debut intergenerational work M-Othering previewed to a sold-out audience here at South East Dance in 2024, receiving glowing audience feedback and received critical acclaim for premiere performances in 2025.
