Surf The Wave

South East Dance is a partner on Surf The Wave, working with Pavilion Dance South West, DanceXchange, Yorkshire Dance and The Place. Surf the Wave is an ambitious programme to create a step change in how the UK showcases dance and extends and strengthens tours for artists and companies. It has emerged from the National Dance Network and is supported by the Showcasing Strategy Working Group.

This three-year project runs from October 2017 to August 2020, taking a longer-term approach to talent development, networking and showcasing.

Lead by Pavilion Dance South West, Surf The Wave will be delivered in three phases:

  • Artist as Entrepreneur - a strategic programme of talent development and artist support involving artists, producers and promoters (including those new to dance) around the UK.
  • The UK Dance Showcase (16 - 19 May 2019 in Bournemouth and Poole), which will have a separate selection process.
  • Surf Generator - A year-long programme of touring and development support to translate interest into tour dates following on from the Showcase.

Surf the Wave costs are supported by Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence fund, Jerwood Charitable Foundation and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation with further support from Arts Council Wales, Creative Scotland, the National Dance Network, DanceXchange, South East Dance, The Place, Yorkshire Dance and Arts Council Wales.
