The Culture Chain Podcast: Episode 2

This is the second episode of a five-part podcast series called The Culture Chain. In these podcasts, recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic, dramaturg Lou Cope hosts a series of conversations with four of the key groups that make up the dance sector’s cultural food chain - namely artists, producers, programmers and funders. 

Grace Okereke, Phil Hargreaves and Maddy Morgan

In Episode 2 of The Culture Chain Lou talks to three independent producers about what’s keeping them busy and what’s keeping them awake right now. They discuss an array of subjects, including tour booking, when to delegate to other industry professionals, and factoring in everything that the producer role entails when applying for funding.

Phil Hargreaves 

Phil is a producer with a specialism in Dance, Circus and Outdoor performance; he currently works with Déda as a Creative Producer and with a variety of artists under his company producingphil. He has worked in a variety of roles involving UK & International touring, strategic development, fundraising, artists development and curation. With a significant understanding of the UK touring ecology, Phil prides himself on putting audience development at the heart of his practice.

Grace Okereke 

Grace’s work spans a range of activities across performance productions, touring, fundraising and strategic development.  Her company Uprise Rebel supports Black female choreographers and administrators, as well as developing inclusive audiences. Under Uprise Rebel, Grace is currently focused on her work with Vicki Igbokwe | Uchenna Dance, Alleyne Dance and Alesandra Seutin. Grace is currently under a Fellowship with International Society of Performing Arts, representing England.

Maddy Morgan
Maddy Morgan is a dance artist and producer from London. Maddy is Executive Director/Producer of socially conscious dance theatre company, Rhiannon Faith Company and continues to perform with the company. Producer and performer credits include the award winning and critically acclaimed Smack That (a conversation) and new work DROWNTOWN.
