Creative movement with Puffin Community Nursery

We’ve enjoyed a long relationship with our friends at Puffin Community Nursery, as one of the first organisations we began developing a relationship with as part of our Welcome Project.

Based just up the hill from The Dance Space in the Tarner area of Brighton & Hove, Puffin Community Nursery is a charity owned and run by families for families and prides itself in putting children before profits. 

Before we opened The Dance Space in Summer 2022, we would take dance to the nursery, but thanks to your generous donations and supporters such as Legal & General, throughout 2023 we’ve been welcoming the children to The Dance Space for a free weekly dance and movement class with Amy Toner, of Dot Dot Dance. 

Tracy Fernley, Manager at Puffin Community Nursery, tells us that the children look forward to visiting us every week, and she’s seen first hand what a difference dance and movement makes to the children in her care.

Tracy says: “Having dance sessions and other creative opportunities provided by South East Dance has been wonderful for our children, especially after the impact of the pandemic on the children's physical and mental wellbeing. We have witnessed how weekly dance sessions have helped with their social development, including co-operation and integration, their physical development as well as their language and communication. We feel very lucky to have been taken under the wing of South East Dance."
