Professional Training: Anna Alvarez
Monday 17, 24 & 31 March
About
Anna is a British Latinx performer, choreographer, movement director and educator. She works with creative teams supporting movement, dance and body connectivity through creating dynamic movement vocabularies that can be performed across diverse spaces.
A pioneer in her hybrid movement language combining Tango and contemporary dance, her work explores connectivity in movement, interrogating the ways that we use our bodies, our relationship with the UK, the environment and the third spaces created by being in between cultures, races and the complexity this presents.
Underpinning all the work is the idea that space is bound up with power, politics and can be transformed.
Class Description
We will begin with guided improvisation; usually starting on the floor and working our way to standing. The focus will be on inhabiting a full, available body whilst maintaining a sense of economy and sustainability. As the class progresses, we will hold on to that idea of economy as we begin to build complex phrases that aim to help you apply the ideas discovered through improvisation to set movement material. This class is suitable for participants with disabilities.
