Curator – Professional Training Programme

We're looking for a professional dance artist based in the South East to curate diverse and engaging teachers for our Professional Training Programme, running from September 2026 to July 2027.

This role amounts to around one day's work for the successful candidate.

SAY leading a professional contemporary dance class.

Our Professional Training Programme is designed to offer participants access to a wide range of genres and styles within contemporary dance.

What are we looking for?

We want to programme a diverse range of local and regional (South East based) teachers who:

  • Are not only strong artists but also create positive, supportive learning environments
  • Work across genres
  • Are specialists in their field
  • Offer clear, rigorous technical practice and are willing to share their technique
  • Challenge professional-level dancers while maintaining an inclusive, accessible atmosphere
  • Attract new class members and encourage continued attendance
  • Are local to the Brighton and South East region and champion local artists and talent

We want our Pro Training Programme to be inclusive and reflective of the dance sector today; and to support freelance dance artists to maintain and develop their bodies and minds and prepare them to work across multiple choreographic approaches.

It is essential that the curated artists are diverse and that local artists are well represented. We are particularly interested in curators who are committed to programming diversly and inclusively including a focus on Global Majority, LGBTQI+, and Deaf/disabled/neurodivergent artists.

Fee

£250 (or equivalent value in studio space)

About Professional Training Classes – 2026/27

Key Tasks

Candidate Skills

Strong knowledge of dance activity and high quality local teachers in Brighton and surrounding areas.

Up-to-date awareness of artists at the forefront of dance practice.

A commitment to curating an inclusive programme, prioritising under-represented artists—particularly local, Global Majority, LGBTQ+, and Deaf/disabled/neurodivergent artists.

We especially welcome applications from Deaf/disabled/neurodivergent, Global Majority, LGBTQ+, and working-class artists with a strong curatorial eye and strong engagement with dance, who can help connect us with under-represented local artists.
