Introducing our first Associate Teacher

Meet Latin dancer Marta Moreta Recio, who joins us at The Dance Space as our first South East Dance Associate Teacher.

"Confident social dancing starts with developing your own movement, musicality and body awareness."

Marta Moreta Recio

Marta is the first dance teacher to be supported through our Associate Teacher Programme, which this year set out to offer one Black or Global Majority dance teacher a bespoke support package to launch their class at The Dance Space.

After an open application process, we are really excited to have offered this opportunity to Latin dance artist Marta Moreta Recio.

Marta was born in Spain to a Dominican family, where Latin music such as salsa, bachata and merengue were part of everyday life. After moving to Brighton, learning salsa helped Marta feel connected to both her roots and culture while adapting to life in the UK. What began as a hobby soon became a passion and Marta went on to train with Latino Flava Dance in London under International Bachata Champion Juan Soto, progressing from the amateur team to the semi-professional performance team over four years.

During this time, Marta developed both her partner work and solo dance skills, performing choreography that blended bachata, salsa, reggaeton and other Latin styles. She also created and performed her own choreography with a particular interest in styling and musical expression.

More recently, Marta has been teaching salsa and bachata partner work in Brighton and Worthing alongside Cuban salsa teacher Leo Henríquez, helping dancers develop confidence, technique and enjoyment in a welcoming learning environment.

Marta says: "I believe that confident social dancing starts with developing your own movement, musicality and body awareness. My new Solo Latin Flow class at The Dance Space brings together all of my experience to offer a class that focuses on creating a supportive space for all, where you can build strong foundations, enjoy Latin music and express yourself through movement, whether dancing solo or with a partner".

Solo Latin Flow starts on Tuesday 8 September, 6pm. Booking opens soon. Marta will be teaching a taster class on Tuesday 21 July, 6pm which we will be filming to create promotional content. Book your space here.
