It’s a wrap on our first Big Give supported dance classes
Thanks to the support of our Big Give donors, we’ve been running free dance and movement classes at The Dance Space for women affected by domestic abuse and homelessness.
At the heart of our work at South East Dance is the belief that dance can be a tool for positive change.
There is overwhelming evidence that taking part in dance has many benefits - thanks to the crossover between creativity and physical movement. Dance is social, promotes self-expression, improves wellbeing, self-esteem, and physical health.
Since September 2024 women being supported by two local Brighton charities, RISE and Just Life, have been taking part in 19 different classes tailored especially for them,in dance styles as diverse as Belly-dancing and Zumba; Ecstatic dance and Afro-Latin.
One woman told us that she had never danced before and that our Big Give supported classes allowed her to try dancing without feeling judged. While another said: “I felt that I took a breath”.
These sessions wrap up at the end of June 2025, when we’ll start planning our next Big Give-supported programme: expanding our free creative movement classes for nursery children across Brighton & Hove. Thanks to everyone who has supported our Big Give fundraising campaigns. Without your help, none of this would have been possible.
