Congratulations to our 2026 Brighton Fringe Bursary Winner

Divija Melally & Saili Katebe are the recipients of our 2026 Fringe Bursary Award for their work One Foot in the Dark, an interdisciplinary exploration of our known and unknown experiences of belonging, identity, culture and change through text and movement.

Being performed at BN1 Arts Centre on 23 May, One Foot in the Dark comprises a double bill of two works, both honest explorations of two artists understanding what it means to navigate through life, questions, and the boxes that we are put into. Dance and poetry are used to facilitate the different stories that we carry about ourselves, about our past, and about what ‘Home’ means to us.

About the company

Divija Melally & Saili Katebe have been collaborating since 2022, working with movement and poetry to explore common themes of interest and curiosity. They are keen to explore the ways in which movement and language in their various forms can come together to facilitate a creative outlet for the stories that we carry. They are interested in human experiences, interactions, and all the different ways in which “being human” manifests in the world. Their work involves presenting two bodies in one space, communicating, and playing with the gap between oral communication and physical communication.
