Performance licences & chaperones
The safety and wellbeing of all participants is a key priority. The requirements below allow us to commit to safeguarding young people taking part in the event.
Performance licences, Body Of Persons Approval (BOPA) and Chaperones
IMPORTANT – if selected for the U.Dance Regional platform it is essential that:
- All groups from out-of-school settings MUST obtain a performance licence for each child of compulsory school age. You MUST have the required number of up-to-date local authority licenced chaperones for your group. Any additional supervising adults must have an enhanced Disclosures & Barring Service (DBS) check.
- School groups with students of compulsory school age will be required to provide details for the BOPA. School teachers can be chaperones for the group. The BOPA only applies to groups from full time mandatory education settings.
- Dancers of school leaving age or older do not need performance licences and are not required to be included on the BOPA. These groups must have supervising adults with an enhanced DBS check.
- Each group must have a minimum of two chaperones / supervising adults. All supervising adults/chaperones must have an enhanced DBS check within 1 year and/or be registered on the online DBS update service and be able to provide their DBS reference number.
- The Safeguarding Lead at your organisation/school/group must be in receipt of two satisfactory references for each adult accompanying young people, including from their most recent employment that involved working with children/young people.
- DanceHub CIC and South East Dance will provide full details about requirements for chaperones, performance licences and the BOPA to all selected groups.
