Our Welcome Project is a prime example of our vision in practice. Launched in 2017, The Welcome Project is our way of getting to know and creating dance with the communities living and working in the area around The Dance Space. We’ve been working with partners on the doorstep - including Brooke Mead Extra Care Facility and Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project, as well our Community Steering Group made up of people connected with the area - to design dance activities for the local community to enjoy.
We recently celebrated three years of The Welcome Project and as part of that milestone we have been reflecting on what we’ve learned along the way.
We gathered the information presented below through a range of methods: by collecting statistics; by talking to the artists, partners, and volunteers who have helped to deliver the project; and to the participants and audiences who have taken part.
The Welcome Project is supported by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, D'Oyly Carte, Sussex Community Foundation, Postcode Community Trust, Brandwatch, St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation and Brighton & Hove City Council.
