Job Description
- To ensure the effective delivery of the Artistic Programme in collaboration with the Artistic Director and Head of Programme.
- To deliver the artistic programme of performances and events at The Dance Space in collaboration with the Programming team and Head of Production
- To support the Head of Programme on the strategic review and development of South East Dance’s Artists Support Programme, working with the programming team to ensure it is high quality, deliverable within the resources available, and sustainable in its approach
- To generate the conditions for success for the Artist Support Programme by managing our partnerships between artists and arts organisations within and beyond the region
- To manage the delivery of discrete projects within South East Dance’s wider programme areas that have an artist and workforce development focus
- To ensure that evaluation is appropriately managed for projects initiated and delivered by South East Dance, including the contribution of data to the Arts Council’s Illuminate tool and meeting Arts Council England’s requirements for a National Portfolio Organisation.
- To collate data as part of the evaluation process to comply with South East Dance and stakeholder monitoring systems, and ensure that data collection has been entered into our data collection systems
- To keep projects and activity to budget for the projects they are managing
- To manage events and activity budgets as required
- To undertake regular Duty Management and Event Management roles as required
- To work with the Head of Programme to implement an approach that sees a financial return on core investment made by South East Dance in the Artist Support & Events Programme and Curated Classes Programme.
- To work with the Programming Team to proactively support the increase in private funding for activity within the Artist Support and Events Programme
- To work with the Head of Communications, and the Communications team to implement communications strategies to achieve programme objectives and targets at South East Dance.
- To represent South East Dance regionally, nationally and internationally
- To line manage junior members of the programming team / any other staff as appropriate or as directed by the Senior Leadership team
- To work to all legislation and company policy on equal opportunities, health and safety and employment law
- To undertake any other work or duties as directed by the Line Manager, the Senior Management team or the Board of Trustees
- To keep abreast of developments in national and international dance/cultural policy
- To keep abreast of developments in national and international dance practice

- To undertake occasional Welcome Desk cover and duty management of performances and events in The Dance Space as required
- To be a key holder and to close down the building on departure and arrival as required
- To undertake such other duties as may from time to time be allocated by the Artistic Director, Executive Director or the Board of Trustees
Person specification
Essential
- Proven track record of working with professional artists to produce and deliver high quality work
- Proven track record of managing events at various scales to a professional level – managing both back of house (artists, cast and crew) and front of house (audiences)
- Understanding of the development needs of emerging and professional dance artists, including those graduating from Further Education, Higher Education, Conservatoire training and alternative routes
- Knowledge of the dance profession and dance production models both within and beyond the UK
- Knowledge of the arts funding system on a local, regional and national level
- Ability and enthusiasm for working effectively in collaboration with peers and colleagues within the cultural sector
- Strong skills in managing complex relationships and partnerships
- Demonstrable advocacy and negotiation skills
- Experience in budget management and financial reporting
- Project management skills: planning, scheduling, co-ordination of people, delivery and evaluation
- Demonstrable relevant professional experience
- Commitment to Equal Opportunities, Anti-Racist and inclusive practices
- Good presentation skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good computer skills: competence in Word, Excel and Outlook and Sharepoint
- Strong and sensitive interpersonal skills to nurture and develop relationships
Desirable

- Knowledge of legislation and good practice around on Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Environmental Sustainability and Health and Safety

Terms and conditions
Job title: Artists Support and Events Manager
Responsible to: Head of Programme
Responsible for: Artists and Events Support
Hours: 22 hours per week (0.6 FTE)
Contract: Fixed term – 9 months
Holiday entitlement: 22 days per annum plus three concessionary days to be taken as agreed between Christmas and New Year, plus Bank Holidays, calculated Pro Rata.
Probationary period: 1 month
Notice period: 2 months
Office base: The Dance Space
Salary: £27,570 Pro Rata
