Associate Artists Programme – 2012-14
South East Dance worked closely with Antonia Grove and Ben Duke in their 2nd Associate Artist Programme. The Artist Development team offered a myriad of support including feedback in the creative process and the development of their new work, drafting successful Grants for the Arts applications, administrative support, advocacy, business development and producing support. This was administered primarily by the Producer of Artist Development and Programme Co-ordinator.
Both associates performed to great success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with Antonia Grove’s Small Talk part of the British Council Showcase. Ben Duke’s company Lost Dog toured the UK and France with 14 performances of It Needs Horses/Home For Broken Turns to audiences of 1206 and ran participatory programmes reaching 383. Following on from this success Ben created a new production Like Rabbits, in collaboration with Olivier award winner Lucy Kirkwood, originally commissioned by the Almeida Festival with further commissioning by the Brighton Festival and the Place and a sold-out performance at the Brighton Festival 2014. Antonia Grove’s company Probe created new production Running on Empty, which toured 28 performances within the UK and France to audiences of 1880, with participatory programmes reaching 185. The tour included a 2 week performance run on the main stage of the reputed Soho Theatre and culminated in 2 performances as part of the Brighton Festival 2014. Running on Empty employed 9 creative collaborators from the worlds of dance, theatre and music.
