The Welcome Project

The Welcome Project was a programme of activities and events designed to encourage more people to have a go at dance in the run up to the launch of The Dance Space.

With the help of a brilliant and committed Steering Group made up of people from all walks of life living and working in the Tarner neighbourhood surrounding The Dance Space, The Welcome Project took dance to local communities.

From tea dances at Brooke Mead Extra Care Housing Scheme, dance classes at Puffin Nursery and Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project, to pop-up workshops at Brighton Youth Centre we challenged perceptions of what dance is and who it’s for.

The Welcome Project was supported by Brighton & Hove City Council, The Chapman Charitable Trust and Legal & General plc.
