South East Dance Partner Companies

We are delighted to be working with three fantastic dance companies to ensure our classes programme in The Dance Space is diverse and inclusive of every body.

Our South East Dance Partner companies are Three Score Dance Company; Parable Dance; and Flexer & Sandiland - three very different companies highly experienced at creating tailor-made classes and workshops that celebrate growing older, ability, and diversity of age and experience.

Three Score Dance Company was established in 2012 with support from South East Dance from the outset. With an emphasis on creating opportunities for older people to make and perform contemporary dance, Three Score Dance has gone on to perform nationally at major venues and festivals including Sadlers Wells and Brighton Festival, and has also become a charity aimed at increasing participation in dance amongst older people. Just over a decade since it was formed, it feels fitting that Three Score Dance should now play an important role in encouraging others to dance in Brighton & Hove’s first purpose-built dance house. As part of our partnership, Three Score will contribute to our curated classes programme, specifically for over 60s or those approaching 60, and create opportunities for participants to take part and perform as valuable members of our dance community.

Flexer & Sandiland, made up of award-winning choreographer Yael Flexer and installation artist Nic Sandiland, creates live and digital installation work for theatres, galleries, screens and outdoor spaces; as well as running workshops and classes for young people and community groups. We have supported and programmed the work of Yael and Nic over many years, and as one of our partner companies, they will be offering regular creative classesspecifically designed for movers 55+ but also open to any interested adults.

Parable Dance is a pioneer in creating high quality dance experiences with people with learning disabilities. The emphasis of its work is on facilitation rather than teaching, and participants are supported to learn dance technique, performance skills and to create choreography.

Our Artistic Director Cath James says: ‘It’s brilliant to have the expertise of Three Score Dance, Flexer & Sandiland and Parable Dance as South East Dance Partner Companies,  at the heart of what we offer at The Dance Space. They are already working in ways and with people that really align with our vision for The Dance Space to offer a welcoming and accessible environment.’

Natasha Britton says: ‘We are delighted to be partnering with South East Dance to deliver our weekly classes for children and adults with learning disabilities. The Dance Space provides us with an accessible home in the heart of the city and – importantly - holding our classes in a professional space will really inspire our dancers and place the importance of their work on an equal footing with that of their non-disabled peers.’

Classes delivered by our Partner Companies will begin during our test period in April. Find out more on our What’s On page.
