Brighton Fringe Bursary Winners: Fish Out Of Water
Each year, we support an artist or company that uses dance, movement and/or choreography in their work with a bursary that covers the entry fee for performing at Brighton Fringe, as well as mentoring from the South East Dance team and in-kind marketing, press and social media support for their show.
We’re excited to award our third Brighton Fringe Bursary to Michaela Cisarikova Dance Company, a dance piece co-commissioned by Applause and The Marlowe. MCDC will use our Brighton Fringe Bursary support to present their work Fish Out Of Water at this year’s Brighton Fringe.
Fish Out Of Water is a fresh, multi-disciplinary outdoor dance performance, which explores themes of belonging, otherness, displacement, and migrancy. An interactive, fun world of hip hop contemporary dance, colourful sculptures and live, responsive music, it is inspired by the audience’s diversity and multinationalism.
The performance tells the story of a group of migrants who must overcome personal struggles of leaving a place of familiarity, finding their way in strange environments, and making a home somewhere new.
Fish Out Of Water is supported by SELEP Ltd as part of Catalyst For Culture and supported by Arts Council England.
