When it opens in 2021, The Dance Space – our new state of the art studios in Brighton - will kick things off with a season of 20 works by 20 artists. To help you get to know these artists, and what intrigues or challenges them, we have asked each of them to select a short screen dance film and tell us why they have chosen it.
Because The Dance Space will be our offices as well as a hub and resource for the local community, 2020 Vision includes curated screen dance picks from both the South East Dance team and our Welcome Project Community Steering Group, giving you an insight into the people that will help to shape what happens in The Dance Space.
South East Dance started life as a screen dance agency back in the 1990s, creating original short films with the likes of Channel 4 and the British Council. Since then, and throughout our 23 year history we’ve been fascinated with what happens when choreography and technology meet. As we prepare for a bright new chapter with the opening of The Dance Space, it feels fitting that we explore the world of screen dance to introduce you to the artists and work that will be housed there.
Tune in to our first instalment of 2020 Vision and delve into the diverse and dynamic world of screen dance by clicking the tiles below. We will be presenting more film choices monthly for the rest of the year.
