About Our City Dances

The flagship event of The Welcome Project, Our City Dances is an annual celebration of dance in Brighton & Hove, created with our community steering group. It’s a dance festival for everyone: whether you’re eight or 80; watching from the sidelines or getting stuck in on the dancefloor.

In 2018, Our City Dances was created in partnership with the Tarner Community Project. More than 1500 people took part in 18 workshops, performances and discussions over two days in what we hope will grow to become an annual citywide celebration of dance.

In 2019, we had dance bursting out of venues and spaces across central Brighton, Queens Park and Tarner over the weekend of Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June. With BSL interpreted events throughout the festival we celebrated the global language of dance, encouraging all ages and abilities to join artists in watching and making performance happen.
