When is The Dance Space available to hire?

The Dance Space will be available to hire both term time and non-term time and will follow the term dates as set by Brighton and Hove City Council.

We are starting to take enquiries about hiring our state-of-the-art studios before we open in 2021. If you are interested in hiring any of our spaces, please get in touch!

 

What safety precautions are being taken for Covid-19?

South East Dance are in constant review of the guidelines as set out by the government for the performing arts in England, and other relevant government guidance including that for gyms, leisure centres and schools. Public safety is our greatest priority and we will take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of users of The Dance Space upon opening and beyond. 

As we approach the opening of The Dance Space, we will keep our website regularly updated with all safety measures that will be taken in response to the Covid-19 crisis.

 

How do I book a studio or meeting room?

The Dance Space will be opening its doors in 2021. If you are interested in hiring our spaces, whether for a class or conference, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with our studio hires team at studios@southeastdance.org.uk with details of your request and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Alternatively, please give our studios team a call on 01273 645262 to talk through your requirements. 

 

How much will it cost to book a studio or meeting room?

All of our studios and meeting rooms are available to hire on a sliding scale price structure, which you can find on the individual studio and meeting room pages.

 

What is the minimum booking length for a studio or meeting room?

There is no minimum booking length to hire space in one of our meeting rooms.

There is a three-hour minimum booking in the Research Space and Creation Space and a one hour minimum booking in the Aldridge Community Space.

 

Please note: the three-hour minimum booking does not apply to 'last minute studio space' bookings. 

 

I am an independent artist and I would like to hire a studio to research a new piece of work. How do I apply for studio space at Rate C?

We will have two weeks of space per term available to hire at Rate C for disabled, neuro diverse, black, indigenous and people of colour only. This space can be booked as far in advance as needed subject to availability. Please contact us via studios@southeastdance.org.uk or 01273 645262 to have a conversation about your requirements.

 

For all other enquiries, space at Rate C will be allocated on a first come first served basis and can be booked up to 1 term in advance. We will announce when we will begin taking bookings at Rate C on our social media channels. Follow us @southeastdance or sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear our news. 

 

I would like to hire the Aldridge Community Studio for a dance class. What rate would apply to me?

All public class hires in the Aldridge Community studio will be charged at Rate B. Rate B is £30 p/h in the Aldridge Community studio.

 

Will you have last minute studio space available to hire?

Yes! Last minute studio space will be available to hire 24 hours in advance and is subject to availability. We are currently in consultation with artists to see what would be the easiest way for artists to find out about last minute availability. 

 

Last minute space will be available to hire in the Research Studio and Aldridge Community Studio at the discounted rate of £5 per hour. 

 

The three-hour minimum booking does not apply to last minute studio hire.

 

What are the opening times of the studios and meeting rooms at the Dance Space?

Both the studios and meeting rooms are available to hire from Monday to Saturday, 8am – 9pm.

 

Please note, there is an additional admin charge for any meeting room bookings starting before 10am and starting and/or finishing after 6pm.

What is the capacity of your meeting rooms and studios?

Meeting room A: 

Boardroom layout: 6 people

 

Meeting room B:

Boardroom layout: 16 people

 

Aldridge Community Studio: 

20 – 25 people dancing

 

Research Studio: 

20 – 25 people dancing

 

Creation Studio:

40 people dancing when seating is retracted 

123 audience seating

 

Please note the capacity for our studio and meeting rooms were estimated before the Covid-19 crisis. The above figures are subject to change, should some form of social distancing still be in place when the Dance Space opens.

 

Will there be Wifi?

Yes, there will be free Wifi throughout the building. The Wifi code and password will be available from reception.

 

What shoes can I wear in the studios?

To protect the floor, we kindly ask that only footwear with a non-marking sole are worn in any of the studios. This includes shoes such as ballet shoes, jazz shoes and non-marking trainers. 

 

For further information regarding ballroom heels and other specialised footwear in The Dance Space, please contact our studios team to discuss. 

 

Can I open windows in the studios?

The Dance Space has been designed with the highest possible environmental credentials which means that, for energy saving reasons, windows in the building cannot be opened.

 

Does the Dance Space have disabled access and facilities?

Yes! All of our studios and meeting rooms are wheelchair accessible. There is also lift access to all floors of The Dance Space from street level.
