Applications Open For Our City Dances 2021
Apply now to perform at Our City Dances, our fun, free, family-friendly festival of dance.
What are we looking for?
Alongside our Community Steering Group, we are looking for five events/performances to programme which will take place across the week of 19 – 24 July. See below for more details.
We are able to offer fees for each event ranging from £250 - £2000.
As part of the application form you will be asked to tell us your fee. Depending on the type of event you apply for, please bear in mind that this will need to include:
- fees for all of the creative team involved
- travel to / from central Brighton if required
- cost of props / costumes / specialist equipment
- cost of any technical equipment (we can provide a PA system)
- any other costs incurred associated with your event / workshop
- Wednesday 7 April - The deadline for applications is 9am
- w/c Monday 19 April - All artists will be informed of whether their application has been successful.

The selection process
Each year Our City Dances is programmed by our diverse Community Steering Group which works collaboratively with us throughout the process. This dedicated group of local people meet monthly throughout the year to discuss all aspects of Our City Dances. They are fundamental in helping us to plan, promote and deliver these festivals and will have the final say when choosing the activity we programme
We recognise the positive values of diversity, promote equality and challenge all forms of discrimination. We actively welcome and encourage people of all backgrounds to apply for this role. We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as D/deaf or D/disabled, people of African or Caribbean heritage, people of South, East and South East Asian heritage and people who are ethnically diverse and/or with lived experience of racism, ableism, genderism or socio-economic disadvantage. More about Our City Dances
Our City Dances is a fun, free, family-friendly summer dance festival. This year’s festival will be focused on work designed to be Covid-safe and viable to happen even if Covid restrictions are still in place. We see Our City Dances as an opportunity to share with the wider public the exciting news about our imminent move into The Dance Space – a new home for dance, located in the Tarner area of central Brighton, and the wonderful opportunities this will offer. In addition, it is a platform for artists who reflect South East Dance’s vision of challenging perceptions of what dance is, who it’s for and what it can achieve.
The first Our City Dances Festival took place in July 2018 and was a roaring success, with 1591 people enjoying dance performances, workshops, discussions and installations across Brighton over two days. In June 2019 we delivered our second festival and saw an increase in audience figures of over 59% from year one. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Our City Dances 2020 had to be cancelled.
