No, we’re not choreographing a nifty tap dance with tails and top hats, but those of you with connections in the construction industry will know that to announce a ‘topping out’ is to signal the exciting moment a new build reaches its highest point.
And so we have with The Dance Space! To celebrate this major milestone, we were delighted to be joined by some of our most steadfast supporters without whom this capital project would never have become a reality. Representatives from Arts Council England, University of Brighton, Brighton and Hove City Council, Arts Impact Fund joined with Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP and Peter Kyle MP and members of the South East Dance Team to herald this critical point in construction. Despite a grey and damp January afternoon, the gathering on The Dance Space roof offered an opportunity for partners to share their aspirations for The Dance Space and the bright future for the region’s cultural infrastructure.
Lloyd Russell-Moyle, MP, said:
"I am delighted to be at the topping out of The Dance Space, this location for South East Dance will provide a create outlet for generations to come. Creativity and dance are not only important for communities, they are huge drivers of our city and country’s economy. In times of huge cuts to the creative arts, including dance, it’s important to see us investing in and supporting dance in our city. I look forward to coming back to see creative expression here in the very near future."
