South East Dance’s The Welcome Project announces call out for 2019 artist commissions,
Many of you will have read about and perhaps even joined us at an event that’s part of The Welcome Project the programme of workshops, pop-ups, flashmobs and dance classes we’re running in the lead up to opening the The Dance Space in early 2020. We’ve been working with Brighton Youth Centre, Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project, Tarner Community Project, Carlton Hill School, Puffin Community Nursery and Brooke Mead Extra Care facility holding tea dances, Capoeira sessions, street funk and belly dance classes. Many of those who participated in our first season performed as part of our inaugural Our City Dances festival in July 2018.
This year, we’re looking for artists, choreographers and performers interested in creating work with our community groups with the potential for the piece to be performed at the next Our City Dances festival taking place over the weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June 2019. We are particularly keen to hear ideas that support people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to influence the creation of the work as well as perform in it. We are looking to commission three artists, but also welcome collaborations, who will work with our community groups from Easter to June 2019. Interested? To apply, please click here to access the information pack. The deadline for applications is 12 noon, Wednesday 30 January. Should you wish to have a chat about the opportunity, you can contact Emily and Lauren, the Creative Communities Managers at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 01273 696844
