#SEDsupported: Spotlight on Victoria Fox Markiewicz

Victoria Fox Markiewicz is a Brighton-based artist we’ve long admired and endeavoured to support over recent years.  We asked her to take five and share news of her company TRIBE// and the projects she’s currently developing.

“Support from South East Dance allows me to build upon the work I have already developed and created in the past two years. TRIBE// draws upon my 19 years’ experience as a dancer here in the UK and abroad.

“As a Brighton-based dancer and choreographer, to have support for my work and company at home is essential, I'm able to create here where I live. The seed commission from South East Dance adds support and allows me to invest in creating new work for TRIBE// No Sudden Moves. It’s a dark yet hopeful dance work that finds a group of dancers stuck together in a repeating scene, a ground hog day after some form of crisis, exploring alternate endings. The work explores systems that we are stuck in and part of how we respond as a people and re-build to begin again.”

TRIBE //’s debut work Still I Rise, performed by an all-female ensemble, is touring next spring around the UK. No Sudden Moves will be touring from autumn 2019 and beyond. You can see an excerpt of No Sudden Moves on the opening night of The Place’s festival of new choreography; Resolutions 2019 on 11 January.
