Our City Dances festival – call out for Artists!
We’re hugely excited to announce that The Welcome Project will present the second annual Our City Dances over the weekend of Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June in a trail of diverse locations, venues and spaces across central Brighton, Tarner and the Queens Park ward. In celebration of our forthcoming move into The Dance Space in 2020, The Welcome Project has been delivering community focused dance programmes and events with our soon to be neighbours, including Brooke Mead Extra Care Facility, Brighton Unemployed Centre Family Project, Brighton Youth Centre, Puffin Community Nursery and Tarner Community Project. Last year these partner organisations played host to many Our City Dances festival events and this year we’re excited to involve them again in presenting shows as well as participating in them.
We’re putting a call-out for artists and performers who would like to be part of the festival and can present work appropriate to all ages and backgrounds; that’s accessible but compelling and captivating for early years to elders. The Welcome Project steering committee, comprising members of our partner organisations and local residents, will be selecting the festival line up, so there will be lots of contrast across the programme. In other news, we are delighted to announce that we were successful in achieving an award from the Postcode Community Trust, the grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. Funds will support the work of The Welcome Project and enable us to deliver a far broader programme. So a big thank you to all you lottery players out there.
