Launching The Jamie Watton Fund

On Friday 19 October we said goodbye to our dear friend and colleague, Jamie Watton, Artistic Director and CEO of South East Dance since 2009. Luminaries from the dance and arts sector came together with members of Jamie’s family at the Sallis Benney Theatre in Brighton to celebrate his life and incredible achievements. A graduate from Trinity Laban, Jamie progressed to their prestigious company Transitions, going on to form award winning company Physical Recall and become a renowned choreographer. Without Jamie, it’s unlikely the concept of The Dance Space would become the reality it is today and his determination to drive the project forward in the most insecure of economic times is testimony to his passion and commitment to supporting next generation talent.

To honour Jamie and his mission, we’re launching The Jamie Watton Fund to help us close the outstanding £190k gap in funding for The Dance Space, a new home for dance in the heart of Brighton. We’d like to invite friends of South East Dance and people across the region who share our dedication to nurturing ground-breaking creative performance, emerging dancers and choreographers to join with us by investing in this unique building.  Every donation will assist us achieve Jamie’s ambition to create a flagship state of the art resource that will benefit the dance sector and local communities for decades to come.  If you would like to be part of the vanguard, please join with us in literally raising The Dance Space.
