Job Description

Fundraising 

  • To research and develop relationships with trusts and foundations, individual donors and corporate partners
  • To keep abreast of developments in the field of fundraising within both the public and private sectors
  • To lead on the development of clear proposals and pitches, liaising with the programming team, Finance Manager and Executive Director on the development of content as required
  • To lead on reporting to funders, liaising with the programming team, Finance Manager and Executive Director on the development of content as required
  • To work with the Communications team on the preparation of collateral for fundraising campaigns
  • To keep an up-to-date fundraising tracker and ensure that all relevant team members are informed of submission and reporting deadlines in good time
  • To contribute to the preparation of Board papers and attend Board meetings when required
  • To contribute to the preparation of budgets and business plans
  • To develop donor cultivation in liaison with the Artistic and Executive Directors
  • To organise and attend cultivation events as required
  • To ensure excellent stewardship of all funders, donors and other relevant parties
  • To build support for South East Dance within the local business community

 

Earned income generation

  • To be a member of the Income Generation Team alongside the Studio Hires & Events Manager, Finance Manager and Executive Director
  • To collaborate with and support the Studio Hires & Events Manager to develop new markets for studio and meeting room hires to increase South East Dance’s earned income

 

General duties applicable to all South East Dance staff

  • To undertake all activities in compliance with South East Dance’s policies and procedures in particular those for Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Environmental Sustainability and  Health and Safety
  • To promote the values and activities of South East Dance
  • To participate in the staff appraisal scheme and undertake professional development activities as required
  • To attend regional and national meetings and conferences as appropriate
  • To undertake occasional reception cover and duty management of performances and events in The Dance Space as required
  • To be a key holder and to lock and unlock the building on departure and arrival as required
  • To undertake such other duties as may from time to time be allocated by the Artistic Director, Executive Director or the Board of Trustees
     

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential 

  • Proven experience and a track record of successful fundraising, preferably within the not-for-profit/cultural sector
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people of different backgrounds
  • Experience of building and maintaining strong working relationships with Trusts and Foundations, individual donors, trustees and other stakeholders
  • A commitment to collaborative team-working
  • Excellent communication and writing skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Highly organised and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • IT literate with a knowledge of CRM databases

 

Desirable

  • Interest in dance/and or contemporary arts
  • Knowledge of the arts and cultural sector in Brighton and the South East

 

Terms and conditions:

Job title: Fundraising Manager

Responsible to: Executive Director

Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Holiday entitlement: 22 days per annum plus three concessionary days to be taken as agreed between Christmas and New Year, plus Bank Holidays

Probationary period: Three months

Notice period: Two months

Office base: The Dance Space

Salary: £27,000 p.a.
