About South East Dance

Our vision is a world where every body is empowered to create, take part in and enjoy dance in all its forms.

Our mission is to make dance happen for every body. Dance that is bold and diverse. Dance that helps us make sense of the world we live in. Dance that makes a difference. We will support people to discover their own relationship with dance, working with them to create the kind of activities they want. And we will work with artists who are committed to taking creative risks, pushing boundaries and challenging perceptions of what dance is and can be.

We support dance artists that specialise in all forms, from breakdancing to ballroom, with funding, tailored advice and networking opportunities throughout their careers. As passionate believers in the health and wellbeing benefits of dance, we also work hard to bring movement to as many people as possible – particularly those who might not have had the opportunity or the confidence to give it a go before.

In July 2022 we opened The Dance Space  from where we now run a wide range of dance classes, workshops and performances and play host to artists and choreographers creating and rehearsing new work. The two studios, performance space, meeting and conference rooms are all available to hire too.  

The Dance Space is a sustainable building for a green city, one of only 10% of new builds in the UK awarded a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating of excellent for its environmentally sustainable features. 

Most importantly, The Dance Space is for everybody and anybody - a place for all ages and abilities to enjoy dance, whether they are making dance, experiencing it as part of the audience or getting stuck in on the dancefloor.
