The Dance Space gets planning go-ahead

tds cgiIt's the news we've been waiting for! Brighton & Hove City Council has granted planning permission for The Dance Space as part of the Circus Street Market Regeneration Project. With the green light now given, we'll be working with the architects and developers to refine plans for what will be a unique new home for dance and for the benefit of Brighton & Hove and beyond. We'll also be shaping up our campaign to raise much-needed funds to make The Dance Space a reality. More news to follow, but do keep an eye on our website for the latest updates.

Brighton Digital Festival finished with a flourish

bdf-dancehackSeptember was a flurry of activity with a special focus on dance and technology. As part of Brighton Digital Festival, together with partners including Brighton Dome, The Old Market and University of Brighton, we programmed a range of performances and events rounded off with our second ever Dance Hack which was a particular success. 18 innovative and curious artists came together with technologists to probe and blur the boundaries of how dance and technology can create pioneering arts experiences. See what they got up to in some of the live-streamed footage from the Dance Hack here.

Farewell to our Associate Artists

farewell associatesThe tenure of our most recent Associate Artists Antonia Grove and Ben Duke has now come to a close. Over their past two years as our Associates, both Antonia and Ben have achieved extraordinary things and seen their careers go from strength to strength. Take a look at this special blog post reflecting on highlights of their time with us, including reaching a combined total of over 16,000 audience members with their live work. Many congratulations Antonia and Ben for all you have achieved and will no doubt continue to achieve, with warmest good wishes for the future from all at South East Dance.

Face to Face conference

facetofaceIs the dance sector thriving? Can we afford to take risks? Is change possible? These are just some of the questions we'll be exploring as part of Face to Face, delivered in partnership with the Dance Strategy Group. Face to Face is a biennial gathering of people working in or with dance. We've run it three times before and this time we're doing things differently, inviting Improbable on board to facilitate an Open Space event where we will think, talk, work and share ideas. So join us at Sadler's Wells on 7th November to do just that - tickets are selling fast so click here for full details and to book online so you don't miss out.

Head to Brighton Dome on 28 October to catch this fantastic family show as well as a fun-filled programme of pre-show MOKO Dance activities for the kids. "Some of the most brilliantly imaginative, humorous, touching theatre I have seen this year" The Times. For a taste of what's in store, take a look at the Chalk About trailer here.
