The Dance Space - Arts Council England Capital funding success
We are absolutely delighted to confirm that our Stage Two Capital funding application to Arts Council England towards developing The Dance Space at Circus Street in Brighton has been successful. This is truly exciting news and means that our vision to create an internationally recognised centre for choreographic research, creation and engagement in one of the UK's most creative cities, is on track to becoming a reality. Wendy Houstoun commission
Following an excellent reception for 50 Acts, programmed in our inaugural season with Brighton Dome, we're really pleased to be co-commissioning Wendy Houstoun's new work Pact with Pointlessness, which will premiere at London's Southbank Centre on 5th- 6th June. In January, our Producer Elizabeth Mischler saw the work in progress at Lakeside Arts Centre in Nottingham: "It was great to see Wendy share her work while it is still growing! It has all the signs of being a fascinating and provocative new piece". We're looking forward to seeing the work develop and catch up with Wendy at the wonderful Juncture which she's been curating with Yorkshire Dance.

Big Arts Day at South East Dance Studios
On 3 February we hosted the fantastic Big Arts Day at South East Dance Studios - a programme of dance, film, digital installation and workshops for over 90 young people from North Kent. Our Studios came alive as they realised their leadership skills and creative potential working with Yael Flexer & Nic Sandiland, followed by a vibrant performance by Map Dance graduate company from University of Chichester. Read some inspiring quotes about the day from the children and young people in our blog!

Upcoming highlights

Weightless/Trip Hazard at Brighton Dome – celebrating 20th anniversary of Flexer & Sandiland
Don't miss a double programme of works by Yael Flexer and Nic Sandiland as we celebrate 20 years of their creative collaboration. Brighton Dome Café welcomes back the installation Trip Hazard until 7 March, which was a big hit with Café patrons during last year's Brighton Digital Festival. There's also the chance to see 20th anniversary show Weightless at Brighton Dome Corn Exchange on 5 March, with a brand new curtain raiser performed by our very own Three Score Dance Company.
Young people set to perform at regional U.Dance platform
We’re looking forward to the U.Dance South East regional final at The Harlequin Theatre, Surrey on 9 March. Join us as we welcome 10 youth dance groups from across the south east to share their creativity live on stage. This follows the success of Dance Mix last November at South East Dance Studios where 72 dancers from Kent, Brighton and West Sussex presented a fantastic showcase of performance work, so come along and help us support and celebrate the dance makers of the future...
South East Dance co-presentation with SICK! Festival
After a thought-provoking pilot festival in 2013, SICK! Festival is returning with a bigger, bolder programme of events at venues throughout Brighton in March. This year we've partnered with them to programme outstanding international artist Koen de Preter to bring Journey – a probing performance from dancers of two different generations (Koen is 32 years old, Alphea is 88), exploring the wishes and limitations of the human body. We think SICK! is an incredibly exciting festival and we're thrilled to be a partner in its second year. Visit the SICK! Festival website for full details – we hope to see you there!

You can keep in touch with us via twitter and facebook - we'd love to hear from you.
