Probe at Soho Theatre

Small Talk

Probe's Small Talk, a one-woman show performed by South East Dance Associate Artist Antonia Grove and directed by Wendy Houstoun, makes its London premiere with a run at Soho Theatre between 2-6 October. Stand-up singing, sit-down talking, monosyllabic dancing and fast talking movement make a daring and virtuosic display of disguise and derangement as Antonia embodies the personae of a series of American movie actresses. "A deadpan ditziness worthy of the young Katharine Hepburn", The Daily Telegraph. Book now...

Children and Young People

Child at Big Dance 2012 Brighton

South East Dance has a renewed focus on developing dance activity for children and young people in the region. Alongside the existing South East Youth Dance Network (SEYDN) monthly e-bulletin, we've recently secured investment from Artswork South East Bridge Organisation, to develop cross-sector expansion of SEYDN, and to embed Arts Award and Arts Mark throughout the network. We're also commissioning and producing a new work aimed at children aged 7+ for spring 2013, and partnering with MOKO dance, the national network led by DanceEast, to create and tour dance for children and family audiences. Artists at SED Studios

Theo Clinkard's Ordinary Courage

The last six months have seen a flurry of artists through the doors at South East Dance Studios, developing a palpale creative buzz at the heart of our home in Kent. This is set to continue throughout the autumn and into 2013, when Yael Flexer/Nic Sandiland, James Wilton, Ben Wright and Theo Clinkard (our newly commissioned artists) will all be developing new work at our Studios.

Big Dance

Big Dance 2012 Brighton

Despite inclement weather and torrential rain across the region, Big Dance 2012 South East England went down a storm! From 7-15 July South East Dance and regional partners delivered hundreds of dance events to enthusiastic, waterproof-clad participants and audiences throughout the South East, engaging over 100,000 people in the plethora of activities. For a unique insight into what went on, visit the Big Dance Blog.

The Dance Space

The Dance Space

The Dance Space project is gathering momentum, with the Development Agreement between South East Dance, Brighton & Hove City Council, Cathedral Group and University of Brighton signed, and the design competition in progress. South East Dance is now focussing on fundraising for the remaining £328,000 for the project, and looking to develop a forum to consult with and involve the local community in the development. FEATURED PROJECT - Motherland

Motherland

Motherland, the latest work from Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT), sees Artistic Director Charlotte Vincent (South East Dance Resident Artist) explore the eternally topical theme of striving to ‘have it all’. A probing and witty piece of work, Motherland delves into “the might of motherhood and the challenges of childlessness” as the men, women and children of VDT use dance, text and live music to take a look at the gender they were born into and the price they are paying for it. Motherland tours the UK from 5 October. www.motherland.org.uk

And Finally... Face to Face

Face to Face is back and will take place at The Point, Eastleigh on Wednesday 28 November. Booking opens on 8th October, with a special Early Bird rate for those who book by the 1st November. Visit What’s On for more about Face to Face.
