South East Dance at Tanzmesse

Jasmin Vardimon Company in ParkThroughout this last week in August we are at Tanzmesse in Düsseldorf, where dance professionals from around the world have come together to showcase work and network in a lively marketplace. We're representing 11 artists with whom we have a track record of collaborating at this massive industry event, including Associate Artists past and present. Part of a wider UK contingent, we are also in Düsseldorf alongside a strong representation from south east England: Vincent Dance Theatre, Jasmin Vardimon Company, Arthur Pita, mapdance and Stopgap Dance Company. Look out for updates direct from our Twitter account - #Tanzmesse!

An enchanting premiere for Under The Vaulted Sky

Under The Vaulted SkyLast month we were extremely proud to see Rosemary Lee's Under The Vaulted Sky (commissioned by The Stables for IF: 2014) premiere as part of Milton Keynes International Festival. After investing in the development of the work it was a thrill to see audiences and a cast of over 100 performers moving so beautifully together through the entrancing Cathedral of Trees. A huge well done to all involved; for more about the piece and to see pictures and links of video and interviews please visit the IF: 2014 website.

A project to celebrate the legacy of Circus Street Market

Circus Street MarketWe are truly excited to be commissioning straybird who have just received a grant from Arts Council England to create a new choreographic moving image work marking the end of Circus Street Market as we currently know it before The Dance Space arrives. straybird will be working alongside photographer Zoe Manders, and together they will create an installation which will premiere in Brighton in 2015. The artists would love to hear from anyone who has a connection to Circus Street Market - as a market stall holder, or as a shopper, or as a graffiti artist - whatever your story, we would like to hear it. To be part of this unique project please contact straybird at straybirdprojects@gmail.com

South East Dance at Brighton Digital Festival

The Measures Taken Alexander Whitley The month-long celebration of digital culture that is Brighton Digital Festival (BDF) is nearly upon us and for 2014 we're bringing you more opportunities to explore the relationship between dance and technology than ever before. This year we are also members of the BDF Consortium for the first time, which has brought us closer to new members of the digital community. Full listings of events we've programmed as part of the festival can be found in our season brochure and on our website, but keep reading for more information on a couple of the events coming up in September...

GøL4M previews

Le Clair ObscurFrench company Le Clair Obscur will present preview performances of their pioneering new work GøL4M as part of BDF at Brighton Dome Corn Exchange on 23 September. The creation of this visionary French artist Frédéric Deslias, in collaboration with his company, and performed by UK choreographer Matthew Morris, GøL4M is a disconcerting with a solo piece where man-meets-machine, taking the form of a hybrid creature where the digital and physical merge to come to life. There will be three performances of this extraordinary creation throughout the day, so visit brightondome.org to book your tickets if you don't want to miss out!

Celebrating Forward Motion

Still from the film Boy from Forward MotionPrior to GøL4M at Brighton Dome on 23 September, and also as part of BDF, we'll be screening the new documentary Dance on Screen: Past, Present, Future in the Dome Café-bar. A celebratory retrospective of the epic South East Dance/British Council project Forward Motion, the documentary takes a look at the highlights and successes of the five-year project which toured the world, reaching over 21,000 audience members and delivering 43 educational wrap-around workshops and master classes. It finishes by looking to the future of dance on screen, and where this fascinating genre might go next.
