Integrated ChoreoLAB
We're reflecting on a brilliant and inspiring Integrated ChoreoLAB, which took place at Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW) on 7-11 April. It was a week full of investigation, curiosity, laughter and discussion about dance and disability; participants included Kate Marsh and Welly O'Brien, Noëmi Lakmaier and Rachel Gomme, and Mark Smith, Anthony Snowden and Kevin Jewell – joined by producers from South East Dance, PDSW and GDance. We are looking forward to seeing their work-in-progress at the Integrated Dance Summit on 16-17 May at PDSW.

katiegreenThe Imagination Musuem
Kent Dancing, our annual festival which brings dance to unexpected places and spaces will be back this July. We're delighted to announce that we have received funding from Kent County Council to programme Katie Green's The Imagination Museum as part of the 7-day celebration of dance in and around Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells. The Imagination Museum is a children's dance theatre piece which has been designed for performances in museums, theatres, heritage sites, art galleries and libraries. Keep an eye out for full details coming to our website soon.

Brighton Oasis Project
In preparation for The Dance Space, we've been working with groups close to the Circus Street site to create greater opportunities for local people to get involved with dance. A big success story has been our budding relationship with Brighton Oasis Project, a women only drug service in Brighton that aims to improve the lives of women, children and young people affected by substance misuse. Throughout March and April we delivered free taster sessions, which went down a storm; we're very pleased to confirm that we'll be offering a further 10 sessions between May and July made possible by support from Cathedral Group Plc and matched by ACE Catalyst funds.

Upcoming highlights

likerabbitsDance at Brighton Festival
Thanks to our unique programming partnership with Brighton Festival we present a stunning range of dance for England's biggest multi-arts festival, taking place throughout May. Amongst all the great dance events, we are particularly proud to present a remarkable installation by William Forsythe at Circus Street Market; new work from our Associate Artists Ben Duke and Antonia Grove; and a Brighton Festival commission for the wonderful Three Score Dance Company set in the hustle and bustle of Brighton Station. Take a look at the Brighton Festival website to find out more!
South East Dance Produces...
Catch Geminus, our first ever production made especially for children aged 3-5 years and their families, at the Gulbenkian Canterbury on 23-24 May and at venues across England on its national tour. Commissioned in association with Take Art and Spectacle vivant en Bretagne as part of DanSCe Dialogues 2, this beautiful piece touches on themes of identity and reflection, curiosity, awkwardness, vitality and wonder. Dance, rhythm and object manipulation are at the heart of Geminus, making it a playful and intriguing experience for young audiences.
solsticeHéla Fattoumi/Eric Lamoureux: Husaïs / Solstice (Remix)
Following a fantastic performance of Insight from Emmanuelle Vo-Dinh at South East Dance Studios earlier in April, we're pleased to welcome another of our French partners - Héla Fattoumi/Eric Lamoureux from the Centre Chorégraphique National in Caen - who will present the award-winning works Husaïs / Solstice (REMIX). Taking place on 24 May, the show (presented as part of DanSCe Dialogues 2) will be followed by a discussion with the artists and members of the South East Dance programming team. Call our Studios on 01322 618618 to find out more and book your tickets. We hope to see you there!
